This is the easiest way to get your heavy fishing kayak on top of your car or truck.

With one person at each end carry the kayak by the grab handles and position it next to and parallel to your vehicle with the bow toward the front of the car. It is really more about technique than strength so do. Grab the kayak at each end by the hull not the grab handles and lift the boat overhead. Open your hood and tie some utility cord about 100 lb capacity to some metal parts of your car see picture below.

Once you ve loaded the boat just lift the kayak or sup and the roof rack will retract with it. Strap the first kayak down to the roof rack. Follow manufactures instructions to install the basic roof rack if you don t have a built in one and the kayak carrier kit. To stap the kayak to the roof open both passenger doors. Thread the straps through the front and back carry handles or toggles and secure each one to a tie down spot underneath your car either with a carabiner or a hook. The easiest way to load a kayak onto a car is with two people. Keep the kayak as far toward one side the driver s or passenger s side as you can. Then attach the strap to the buckle or ratchet and tighten until the straps are good and taut.

You should always tie down the bow and stern of your kayak especially if you are going to transport your kayak without a roof rack. Place a kayak on one side of the roof rack. Throw the straps over the kayak and secure the straps. Then it locks securely in place on top of the car.

You can do this with a variety of tie down straps. Throw one end of the straps over the roof go around and toss that end through the passenger door. Slide the kayak onto the roof rack with the cockpit facing upside down toward the roof of your car and center the cockpit of the kayak between the two bars of your car.
