I cannot open my pella storm door step 1.
Pella door lock stuck.
This will loosen the tension on the deadbolt allowing it to retract and the door to open.
The pella contact suggested removing the screw cover strip on the latch side and removing the 5 screws holding the latch side trim.
Find the latch rail.
Wipe off any excess lubricant with a rag.
Twist the hinge rail screws a quarter turn each counterclockwise using a flat screwdriver.
The door opening may be out of square which can happen as a home settles.
Loosen them a turn to relax the tension.
Once the door is open operate the handle and turn the deadbolt.
Lubricate the hinges with silicone spray or 3 in 1 oil.
To unjam the deadbolt remove the installation screws on the latch rail from the outside.
Once the mechanism has been released adjust stiff pella sliding door locks by loosening the screws holding the latching strikes on the inside of the door frame.
The inside hinge rail screws could be too tight.
This is a waste of time because the striker plate is still held firmly by 3 screws you can t get to.
Pry off the plastic covers loosen the screws and slide the strikes up or down a few millimeters.
If your door is new the hinges could be tight until they receive some use.
Spray a silicone spray lubricant into the door s latch mechanism.
If either does not operate when the door is open the hardware needs to be replaced.
Each case of stuck door can have its own challenges and solutions due to the variety of factors that can contribute to this type of situation and because of the many different door designs door hardware and door functions.
